God's Word - A Light
Ps 119:5 “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
Eph 5:13. “The entrance of thy words give the light. It giveth understanding unto the simple.”
II Cor 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency may be of the power of God and not of us.”
Gideon and his men broke their pitchers as commanded (Judges 7:19-20), and the light from the candle within shone out. They blew their trumpets and cried, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon.”
As soldiers of the Lord of hosts, our vessels (or spirits) have to be broken in His hands so that the light of the Word can shine out from us. We must have our trumpet (voice) ready to proclaim the Word
Judges 7:21. “And they stood every man in his place round about the camp, and all the host (of the enemy) ran and cried and fled.”
Gideon’s men had the light and they had the trumpet. There was no need for them to run around chasing the enemy. God did it for them, using their obedience to God’s command to His man of the hour.
The light of the Word and our voice may be all that is necessary to put the devil to flight and see the victory won for us, even in a seemingly hopeless situation where the enemy may outnumber us greatly. For “Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.”
Just as God fought Gideon’s battle for him when the men broke those pitchers, so He will fight our battles for us if we allow Him to break our pitchers (our stubborn pride, flesh, spirit, will). There couldn't have been much left but shards of pottery hanging from a handle in the men’s hands, but it was still sufficient to hold aloft the light.
Even when we think our lives are so broken that they cannot be of use, God’s light can still shine forth through our brokenness to light the way to victory for us and others around us.
