His Mercy Is New Every Morning
“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou vistest him?”
Psalm 8:3-4
I love this piece of Scripture and the humility it brings to my spirit! When I consider all that he has made and every blessing he has poured out, I can only sit in amazement! However, it would be easy for one to think, “what am I that God would care about my seemingly insignificant life? I’m not perfect, I don’t have any special abilities, I don’t even know what ministry he could put me in. I don’t think he needs me in the Kingdom.” Sometimes we can feel so unworthy to be called children of God; like we’re not good enough and never will be. We’re always making mistakes, failing over and over again. “Surely the Lord couldn’t possibly want to use me” is the thought constantly running through our minds. Compared to the other Christians we know, we think we’re a dime a dozen; just trying to “get by” in this life... Oh, how wrong we are in our mindset of what Christ sees us to be! Of course we’re not good enough on our own! But that is why we passionately pursue after the Lord, desiring to know his thoughts and his ways, for they are higher than our own (Isaiah 55:9). To quote some godly men in my life, “you don’t get good to get God; you get God to get good!” The Lord does not expect us to be perfect, for he remembers that we are “but dust.” He also doesn’t expect us to stop failing completely. We do need to make it a priority to lay down the sin in our lives, especially when it’s the same sin being committed over and over again. And if you repent from a truly sorrowful and convicted heart each time you make that mistake, and have a determination not to do it again, God is quick to forgive you. There would be no need for his mercy if he knew we would be perfect the moment we were made a new creature in him! His word says: “It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:21-22 God does not just sit by and wait for us to sin so that he can prove us right. Rather, he desires to mold us and shape us into what he is so that we can become the best HE has to offer! Once we’re forgiven, although we can’t forget, God does. And the moment we are cleansed, it’s as if the mistake never happened in God’s eyes... I imagine when we pray for forgiveness over something that is already under the blood, God says, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. This mistake is not on your record!”
“Oh, how marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!” Stop thinking that the Lord made a mistake when he chose you, because he did choose you to be in his kingdom, and you can be used of him no matter WHO YOU ARE! After all, God is no “respecter of persons” (Romans 2:11), and he doesn’t make mistakes - how can we argue with that? The Lord is merciful and quick to forgive; his compassions fail not, but rather, they are new every morning... So, wake up, and allow the blood of the Lamb to cover your life!
